The suction force (or SF) is the osmotic pressure of the plant cell vacuole, that is, of the vacuolar internal solution. As the vacuolar solution is hypertonic in comparison to cytosol it attracts water therefore increasing the cytosol concentration. With the osmotic act of the vacuole the cytosol becomes hypertonic in relation to the external and more water enters into the cell.
