The structures which form the nervous system can be separated in the central nervous system (or CNS) and peripheral nervous system (or PNS).

The organs of CNS are brain (or cerebrum, cerebellum and brainstem) and spinal cord. The PNS is made of neural ganglia and nerves. Besides these organs meninges (arachnoid, dura-mater and pia-mater) are part of nervous system too because they protect and cover the encephalon and spinal cord.
