In relational terms, every column in a table should be functionally dependent upon the whole primary key of which table. Functional dependency shows that a link exists among the values in two various columns.

When the value of an attribute depends upon a column, the value of the attribute should change when the value in the column changes. That attribute is a function of the certain column.
