The menstrual cycle is parted in two main stages:

The follicular (or menstrual) stage and the luteal (or secretory) stage. The menstrual stage starts at the first day of menses and ends until ovulation (around the 14th day). The luteal stage starts after ovulation and ends when menses begins (around the 28th day).
