Why do roots of different swamp plants have the special morphology?

Marsh and swamp plants usually have the supporting roots which ramify from the portions of the stem above the ground helping plant in order to fixate down the muddy and sandy soil. They can also have the respiratory roots (pneumatophores), structures which appear from the buried roots in order to catch the oxygen.
