The two different solar thermal packages can be modified to fit budget or provide additional solar contribution.

System 1: Solar thermal DHW (domestic hot water) heating system.

This system consists of 6 Apricus AP-30 solar collectors mounted on the flat roof. The backup water heater is a 199,000 BTU stainless steel tank type unit with a modulating burner operating at up to 96% efficient. All new piping shall be insulated. The backup boi ler heats the water as it is used. There circulation pump shall be equipped with a new timer and eventually transfers part of the energy to the 500 Gal. Stg. Tank. A solar coil inside the backup heater provides solar boost as soon as the suns energy is available. Twin stainless steel heat exchanger tanks provide heat to the large storage tank when the water heater is at the maximum design temperature. Price for materials $36,817.00, price for labor $15,000.00, TOTAL PRICE $51,817.00

System 2: Solar DHW and radiant heating system.

This system consists of 12 Apricus AP-30 solar collectors mounted on the flat roof. The backup water heater is a 199,000 BTU stainless steel tank type unit with a modulating burner operating at up to 96% efficiency. All new piping shall be insulated. The backup heater heats water as is being used. The re circulation pump shall be equipped with a new timer and eventually transfers part of the energy into the 500 Gal. Stg. tank. A pre heat tank with dual heat exchangers heats the water prior to entering the backup water heater. The pre heat tank will provide solar energy to the water as soon as the sun’s energy is available. This allows more hot water to be heated. Other water heater loads could potentially be feed wi th this design. System two also
includes a radiant heating option. During periods of low water use and avai lable solar energy, we propose to provide supplemental radiant floor heating to the Kindergarten and Grade 1 class rooms. The radiant floor is a good way to use potential excess solar heat and provides a means of tempering the thermal mass of the structure. It is also a good test to evaluate ground source heat distribution. Price for materials $57,659.00, price for labor $20,000 TOTAL PRICE $77,659.00.
