Each adrenal gland is situated on top of each kidney (forming a hat-like structure for kidneys), so there exist two glands. The adrenal parenchymal structure is divided into two portions: the most peripheral is cortical portion, or adrenal cortex, and the central is medullary portion, or adrenal medulla.
