Silver and Denim is a name of the manufacturing company. This company could map out its history back to the year of1854, although the "Silver and Deming" name doesn’t date back that far. The titular heads were John Deming and Albert R. Silver. Silver and Deming made the variety of machines which were primarily aimed at the wheelwrights: spoke-tenoning machines, hob-boxing, and so on.

Silver and Deming apparently invented large-size twist drill bit with the turned-down shaft so they can be employed in chuck smaller than the bit's cutting diameter. They didn’t patent this idea, so the idea was rapidly copied by others; however these bits are still named as "Silver and Deming drills".
