In hypothyroidism the secretion and making of T3 and T4 are impaired. as these thyroid hormones arouse the basal metabolism of the body (cellular respiration, protein metabolism and fat acid.) the patient with hypothyroidism may present low heart rate (bradycardia), low respiratory rate, extreme tiredness, dejection, cold intolerance and weight gain. Normally Hypothyroidism is accompanied by enlargement of the thyroid in the neck (goiter).
