Two important services that are provided by AppFabric are as follows:
1. Access Control Service (ACS) – It allows rules-driven and claims-based access control for the distributed applications. Claims-based rules and authorization roles can be described in cloud for accessing on-premise and the cloud services. Claim can be the user or application attribute that the service application expects, like phone number, e-mail address, password, and role, for suitable access control. While any application wants to make use of the Web service, it sends the necessary claims to ACS for requesting the token. ACS converts the input claims into output claims by following rules of the mapping. Rules are created at the time of configuration of the ACS. ACS issues the token containing output claims for a consumer application. This application uses token in request header and sends to a Web service. This service authenticates the claims in a token and gives appropriate access to the user.
2. Service bus – This provides messaging among cross-enterprise and the cross-cloud scenarios. This provides point-to-point, publish/subscribe, and queues message patterns for switch messages across distributed applications in a cloud. It combines with the Access Control service to create protected relay and communication.
