Route of nutrients after digestion
From intestinal lumen through to tissues - Explain the route of nutrients after they get digested?
Expert
Amino acids, Monosaccharides, mineral salts and water are generally absorbed by the intestinal epithelium and is collected by capillary vessels of intestinal villi. From capillaries, nutrients go to mesenteric circulation, system of vessels which drains the intestinal loops. The blood of mesenteric circulation is drained into the portal hepatic vein and some other nutrients are processed by the liver. From liver, nutrients are generally gathered by hepatic veins which discharge the content of the blood into inferior vena cava. Blood from inferior vena cava then gains right chambers of the heart and is pumped to lungs for the purpose of the oxygenation. From lungs the blood then returns to the heart from where it is pumped to tissues distributing oxygen and nutrients.
