Respiratory pigments are said to be the oxygen-carrying molecules which is present within the blood. Whenever the concentration of oxygen is high, such as, in the pulmonary alveoli, the respiratory pigments bind to the gas. In the conditions, of the low oxygen concentration, such as within the tissues, the respiratory pigments liberate the molecule. Within the human blood the respiratory pigment is known as the hemoglobin, that is present in the red blood cells.
