Relation between hypothalamus and hypophysis
What is the main relation between hypothalamus and hypophysis?
Expert
The hypothalamus is a portion of the brain located just above the hypophysis. The hypothalamus gets peripheral and central neural impulses which trigger response of its neurosecretory cells. The axons of such cells go down to adenohypophysis to regulate the hipophyseal secretions by means of negative feedback. Whenever the plasma levels of adenohypophyseal hormones are very high the hypothalamus detects this commands and information interruption of the production of hormone. Whenever the blood level of an adenohypophyseal hormone is low, the hypothalamus stimulates the secretion of hormone. The hypothalamic cells generate the hormones liberated by the neurohypophysis. Such hormones are transported by their axons to hypophysis and then liberated in the circulation.
