Readying the Egg: The oocyte continues its journey by being “caught up” by the fimbria of the fallopian tube and is swept into the oviduct to meet the sperm (if present) and become fertilized. If no sperm are present or the conditions are not ideal then the oocyte dies and a woman undergoes a menstrual period which sloughs off the endometrium layer and the whole cycle begins again.
