Reaction of plant cell wall in hypotonic medium
How does the plant cell wall react whenever it is placed in hypotonic medium?
Expert
The plant cell wall (that is, the covering of the cell external to cell membrane) is made up of cellulose, a polymer of glucose. Whenever the cell is put in hypotonic medium it absorbs too much water via osmosis. In that condition the cell wall pressure acts to reimburse the osmotic pressure therefore forbidding excessive enlarge of the cellular volume and the cell lysis.
