Prostaglandins and leukotrienes are made only when the mast cell undergo the degranulation and enzymatic break down of phospholipids within the plasma membrane.
The effects generated by them are more pronounced and long in comparison to the histamine. Leukotrienes mediate mucous generation and bronchoconstriction. Prostaglandin D2 causes the bronchoconstriction.
