In the fermentation glucose (sugar) is tainted in pyruvic acid (each glucose molecule forms out two pyruvic acid molecules). In this procedure two molecules of ATP are produced. According to type of the fermentation, pyruvic acid can generate ethanol as well as carbon dioxide (in the alcoholic fermentation) or the lactic acid (in the lactic fermentation). There are other varieties of fermentation in which pyruvic acid can produce acetic acid (acetic fermentation), the propionic acid, the isopropanol (an alcohol also), and so forth. The type of fermentation is only depends on the species of the occupied organisms.
