Antivenoms are acquired by the following procedure: the venom (antigen) is inoculated in other mammals, for example in horses; these animals make particular antibodies in opposition to the antigen; blood from the animals is collected together and distilled to get the antibodies; This antibody-containing substance is the antivenom. Whenever a human is infected by antigen the particular antivenom is given to him/her and the action in opposition to the antigen occurs. Antivenoms can also be ordered as a preventive measure and, because it is basically made of specific immunoglobulins against a number of antigens, the procedure is an instance of passive immunization.
