Blood clotting comprises of the sequence of chemical reactions, releasing products like enzymes which catalyze the following reactions that is the reason why clotting reactions are known as cascade reactions. In plasma an element knwon as thromboplastinogen get transformed into thromboplastin, a reaction which is triggered by the tissue and platelet factors liberated after the injury of blood vessel. Then the thromboplastin catalyzes with the calcium ions, transformation of the prothrombin into thrombin. Thrombin then catalyzes reaction which produces fibrin from the fibrinogen. Fibrin, being an insoluble substance, precipitates in order to form the network which traps the red blood cells and platelets resulting in the blood clot and also containing the hemorrhage.
