Discharge pressure may be avoided through the pressurized spike cushion. Here system utilizes a pressurized cushion of the air and a two o-ring piston that separates permanently this air cushion and the water system. When valve closes and the flow of the water is abruptly stopped, the pressure spike pushes piston up the arrester chamber against the pressurized cushion of the air. The air cushion within the arrester instantly reacts, absorbing pressure spike which results in the water hammer.
