Phenomenon of Super Saturated Expansion
State the phenomenon of Super Saturated Expansion in steam nozzle.
Expert
When the Superheated steam is expanded in the steam nozzle, the condensation should occurs in the nozzle. Since the steam has a great velocity, the condensation does not takes place at the estimated rate.
Hence, the equilibrium between the liquid and vapour phase gets delayed and the steam remains to expand in the dry state. This phenomenon is said to be Super Saturated Expansion .
Gravity flow: Gravity flow is a fluid flowing due to the forces of gravity alone and not to the applied pressure head. In Bernoulli’s equation, the pressure word is absent, and the height and velocity terms are only ones involved.
