pH of an Alkyl Halide
Briefly state the pH of an Alkyl Halide?
Expert
The pH is generally on acidic side (that is, pH < 7). The reason being, some of alkyl halides tend to decompose through beta hydride elimination process producing hydro-halo acids which impart acidity, example: tertiary butyl chloride decomposes to generate HCl or the hydrochloric acid.
The methods used for the preparation of phenols are given below: From aryl sulphonic acids

Describe briefly the procedure to judge that the given organic compound is pure or not?
Choose the right answer from following. In a solution of 8.7g benzene C6H6 and 46.0 gm toluene ,(C6, H5, CH3) the mole fraction of benzene in this solution is: (a)1/6 (b)1/5 (c)1/2 (d)1/3
Carbon compounds containing more than one halogen atom are called polyhalogen compounds. Most of these compounds are valuable in industry and agriculture. Some important polyhalogen compounds are described as follows: Q : Oxoacids of halogens Why oxidising Why oxidising character of oxoacids of halogens decreases as oxidation number increases?
Why oxidising character of oxoacids of halogens decreases as oxidation number increases?
Choose the right answer from following. Which of the following is a colligative property: (a) Osmotic pressure (b) Boiling point (c) Vapour pressure (d) Freezing point
Select the right answer of the question. The vapour pressure of two liquids P and Q are 80 and 600 torr, respectively. The total vapour pressure of solution obtained by mixing 3 mole of P and 2 mole of Q would be: (a) 140 torr (b) 20 torr (c) 68 torr (d) 72 torr
