Permeability how membranes are categorized
Regarding their permeability how membranes are categorized?
Expert
Membranes can be categorized as impermeable, semi permeable, permeable or selectively permeable. An impermeable membrane is which through which no substance can pass. Semi permeable membranes are those which permit only solvents, like water, to pass through it. Permeable membranes are those which permit solutes and solvent, like ions and molecules, to pass across it. There are as well selectively permeable membranes, that is, membranes that besides permitting the passage of solvent allow only some particular solutes to pass while blocking others.
