Pleura refer to the membrane which covers the lungs and inner walls of the chest; pericardium is defined as the membrane which covers the heart; peritoneum is defined as the membrane which covers most organs of the gastrointestinal tract and part of abdominal cavity. All these membranes delimit the coeloms (internal cavities).
