Hepatitis A is a sensitive disease of the low mortality caused through the hepatitis A virus (an RNA virus). It is transmitted by the fecal-oral route frequently through the contamination of foods such as vegetables and sea-food.
The virus direct attacks on liver and its incubation period differ between 15 to 45 days. After incubation the symptoms are fever, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, malaise and vomiting and the main signs is jaundice, hepatomegaly (enlargement of liver) and darkened urine (because of excessive bile in blood). Blood tests show raised levels of hepatic enzymes caused by the injuries to liver cells. Hepatitis A frequently heals naturally after 4 and 6 weeks.
