Besides being nutritionally essential, the maternal milk participates in the defence process of baby against the infectious agents. Soon after the delivery, mother generates more fluid milk known as colostrum which is rich in the immunoglobulins (antibodies). These antibodies are generally not being absorbed by the baby’s circulation but they cover the internal surface of baby’s bowels hence, attacking the possible antigens and making more difficult the proliferation of the pathogenic bacteria within the organ.
