Osmosis is the phenomenon of movement of the solvent particles (in common, water) from an area of lower solute concentration to an area of higher solute concentration. Diffusion, on the other hand, is the movement of solutes from an area of higher solute concentration to an area of lower solute concentration.

One can consider osmosis as a movement of water (or solvent) and diffusion as movement of solutes, both concentration gradient-driven.
