Few important checkpoints to find the bottleneck in the BN and improve the performance of BN:

- Improve the compute and device performances by using dynamic routing protocols which are faster than the static protocols and using encapsulation instead of translating protocols as the prior takes less processing.

- Improve circuit capacity by replacing shared circuit backbone with a switched circuit backbone or use additional circuitry and increase the overall circuit capacity

-Reduce the network demand and avoid applications like video conferencing, imaging etc which uses large network capacity

- Choose appropriate backbone design keeping in mind the important factors like throughput, cost, type of applications etc.
