Iron is the constituent of hemoglobin molecule and of enzymes of the digestion and energetic metabolism. Deficiency of the dietary iron may cause iron deficiency anemia, abnormal lowering of the hemoglobin concentration in blood due to lack of iron. In pregnancy high consumption of iron is there by the fetus and this fact may also lead to anemia.
