Light excites chlorophyll and energizes electrons which jump off the molecule. The energy discharged when such electrons escape is utilized in the phosphorylation of ADP, making ATP. The enzyme which catalyzes the reaction is the ATP synthase. The resultant ATP is then consumed in the subsequent chemical phase of photosynthesis to energetically enrich carbon-dioxide for the making of glucose.
