The Scurvy is a disease caused by lack of vitamin C. It is characterized by tissue lesions in the lips, skin, nose and joints. Scurvy, or scorbutus, was as well termed as sailor’s disease as in maritime voyages of the past it was not ordinary to get on board food which contained vitamin C, such as citric fruits. Therefore the sailors became ill with scurvy.
