Pearls are made up from small strange particles which deposit among the shell and the mantle of the oyster. Such particles trigger a defense procedure by the organism and they are slowly covered by calcium carbonate layers secreted by the oyster therefore giving birth to pearls.
In artificial production of pearls, a small fragment of shell wrapped with mantle pieces is inserted among the shell and the mantle of an oyster and pearl is made around the graft.
