Adenohypophisys liberates ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone), GH (growth hormone), prolactin, FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), and LH (luteinizing hormone).GH, also termed as somatotropic hormone (STH), which acts on cartilages, bones, and muscles responsible for growth of these tissues. Prolactin is the hormone which in women stimulates the production and liberation of the milk through the mammary glands. The ACTH is hormone which stimulates the cortical part of adrenal gland in order to produce and liberate the cortical hormones (glucocorticoids). The TSH is hormone which stimulates the functioning of thyroid gland improving the production and liberation of its hormones T4 and T3. The FSH is the gonadotropic hormone, that is, it stimulates the gonads and in the women it acts on the ovaries inducing growth of the follicles, in men it stimulates the spermatogenesis. The LH is also a gonadotropic hormone which acts on the ovaries of women in order to stimulate ovulation and formation of corpus luteum which secretes estrogen, and in men over the testicles in order to stimulate the production of testosterone.
