Three HDLC station types can be described as:
a) Primary station : Primary station generally has the absolute control of the link. It sends commands to the secondary station.
b) Secondary station : Secondary station has the responsibility to send the responses.
c) Combined station : The combined station is defined as the one that acts either as the primary or as the Secondary, depending on the nature and direction of transmission. Combined station can send both the commands and the responses.
