The nervous system is divided on the basis of functionality, into:
a) Visceral nervous system and
b) Somatic nervous system.
The somatic nervous system involves the central and peripheral structures which make the voluntary control of efferences. Central and peripheral structures which participate within the control of the vegetative functions of body are involved within the mechanism of the visceral nervous system. The efferent portion of visceral nervous system is known as the autonomic nervous system.
