Function of myelin sheath
Write down the function of myelin sheath? Do all axons present the myelin sheath?
Expert
The function of myelin sheath is to get better speed and safety of neural impulse transmission along axon. The myelin sheath serves as an electrical insulator preventing dispersion of impulse to other adjacent structures.
Because myelin sheath has gaps which is Ranviers’ nodes in its length, neural impulse “jumps” from one node to another therefore raising the speed of neural transmission. Not all neurons have a myelin sheath. There are axonal fibers unmyelinated and myelinated ones.
