Function of anti-diuretic hormone
State the function of anti-diuretic hormone? Where it is made and which - stimuli increases or reduces its secretion?
Expert
The anti-diuretic hormone is released by the hypophysis also called as pituitary and it acts in the nephron tubules increasing the reabsorption of water. Whenever the body needs to retain the water, such as, in case of blood loss and abrupt blood pressure lowering or in cases of abnormally high blood osmolarity, there is stimulus for the ADH secretion. When body has an excess of water, as in case of excessive ingestion or in abnormally low blood osmolarity, the excretion of ADH is blocked and the diuresis increases. ADH also known as vasopressin since it increases the blood volume and hence heightens the blood pressure.
