Platelets, also called as thrombocytes, are the fragments of giant cells of bone marrow known as megakaryocytes. Along with their properties of aggregation and adhesiveness they play the direct role in blood clotting and also liberate some substances which activate the other hemostatic processes. Thrombocytopenia is the clinical condition into which the number of platelet of blood is lower than the normal. In such situation the affected person becomes susceptible to the hemorrhages.
