Explanation of nitrogen cycle
Give a brief explanation of nitrogen cycle.
Expert
The nitrogen cycle is that cycle which represents the recycling and circulation of the chemical element nitrogen in the nature. The nitrogen cycle is mainly depends on the action of the some specialized bacteria. Bacteria of soil called nitrogen-fixing bacteria present in the plant roots absorb molecular nitrogen from the air and release nitrogen under the form of the ammonia. The decomposition of organic material as well generates ammonia. In the soil and roots (or leguminous), a first group of chemosynthetic bacteria named as nitrifying bacteria, the nitrosomonas, generates energy consuming ammonia and liberating nitrite (or NO2) the second group of nitrifying bacteria, nitrobacteria, employes nitrite in chemosynthesis liberating nitrate (or NO3). In the form of the nitrate, nitrogen is then incorporated by plants to be employed as component of proteins and nucleic acids and element then follows along food chain. Nitrogen returns to atmosphere by action of denitrifying bacteria which use nitrogen-containing compounds from the soil and liberate nitrogen gas (or molecular nitrogen).
