Explain the term kussmal sign?
Expert
Kussmaul's sign is the surveillance of a jugular venous pressure (that is, JVP, the filling of jugular vein) which rises with inspiration. This can be seen in some forms of heart disease.
Normally the JVP falls with inspiration due to decreased pressure in the expanding thoracic cavity.
Kussmaul's sign recommends impaired filling of the right ventricle due to either fluid in the pericardial space or a poorly compliant pericardium or myocardium.
