The spinal cord is a dorsal neural cord of vertebrates. It is the portion of central nervous system which continues in the trunk to facilitate the nervous integration of the entire body. The spinal cord is made up of groups of neurons located in its central part forming the gray matter and of axon fibers in its external part forming the white matter. The Neural bundles join to both lateral sides of the spinal cord segments to build the dorsal and ventral spinal roots which join to form the spinal nerves. The dorsal spinal roots represent a ganglion with neurons which receive sensory information; the ventral spinal roots include motor fibers. Thus the dorsal roots are sensory roots and ventral roots are the motor roots.
