The process wherein the pollen grains (male gametophytes of the phanerogamic plants) arrive at the female gametophyte is known as the pollination. The main forms of the pollination include:

a) Anemophily, wherein the pollen is carried out through the wind.
b) Hydrophily, pollination carried out by the water;
c) Entomophily, pollen carried out by the insects;
d) Ornitophily, pollination carried out by the birds;
e) Chiropterophily, pollen distrubuted by the bats.

Characteristics of flowers of each of the plant species relates to the type of pollination carried out by the plant. Colored flowers attracts the birds and insects; nocturnal flowers usually are white and perfumed, many are specialized in the pollination by bats; the nectar is also a specialization used to attract the pollinator animals; flowers which generates an exaggerated amount of the pollen generally use the wind as pollinator; the position of the anthers more external or internal next to the nectar give the way in order to facilitate the pollen dissemination respectively by the wind or by the animals.
