Lateral, or the secondary, meristems, are the cambium and the phellogen also termed as the cork cambium, tissues from branches, stem, and roots which through the mitosis produces other tissues. These tissues generally participate within the secondary growth of the plant, that is, in thickening of the branches, stem and roots.
