RNA and DNA, the nucleic acids, are the molecules accountable for the hereditary information which commands the protein synthesis in the living beings. The word “nucleic” derives from the fact that they were introduced (by the Swiss biochemist Friedrich Miescher, in the year 1869) in the cell nucleus. In that time, it was not recognized that such substances composed the hereditary information.
