Explain Advent of Electronic Communications

Advent of Electronic Communications: In the late ‘90s, a new means of communication was discovered - the electronic medium. The electronic technology of communication transformed the workplace. Though the advantages are numerous yet the pitfalls cannot be ignored, as because we gather so much from the body language of humans (i.e., tone of voice, gestures, facial expressions) which are predominantly absent in the electronic medium. Social Media, a powerful tool of electronic communication, poses challenge to communicators to use it to instigate employee engagement, capture the thoughts and issues of employees, and provide relevant information. Thus, it can be said, that the evolution of electronic communication have revolutionalized the role of organizations from that of an information distributor to open dialogue. It has compelled organizations to let go the hunger to control and rather emerge as good listeners. It has equipped managers and employees as the primary representatives of organizations.
