Viruses that are of a high mutation rate like the virus which causes the common cold escape effortlessly from the action of vaccines against them. After a inital immune reaction(natural or artificially induced) against the virus in the subsequent season of infection new mutant opposing strains appear and the safety obtained with the immune response of the previous season is lost. (One can say that the high mutation rate is a form of “immunization” found by these viruses.)
