One may imagine a cycle such as an analog clock where 0 o’clock is the beginning and end of the menstrual cycle and 6 o’clock corresponds to the 14h day of cycle. At 0 o’clock the menses and so menstrual cycle starts and FSH blood level starts to improve. Approximately around 2 o’clock, the maturing follicles under the FSH action are already liberating the estrogen and endometrium is thickening. About 3 o’clock estrogen is immensely triggering the increase of LH blood level. At about the 6 o’clock LH is at its maximum concentration and FSH is also at the high levels in order to promote the ovulation, LH then triggers the formation of corpus luteum. Approximately around 7 o’clock the corpus luteum is already liberating the large amount of progesterone and estrogen and the endometrium thickens even more, concomitant lowering of the FSH and LH takes place along with the increase of ovarian hormones. Around 11 o’clock the reduced levels of the FSH and LH form the corpus luteum turn to corpus albicans, the generation of the progesterone and estrogen stops and the endometrium reverts. At 0 o’clock again (28th day) the endometrium desquamates and a new menstrual cycle starts.
