Error correction refers to the mechanism for correcting the errors:

a) When the error is encountered, the receiver may have the sender retransmitting the whole data unit.

b) A receiver may use an error correcting coder that automatically corrects the particular errors.

There exist two error-correcting methods as follows:

a) Single bit error correction

b) Burst error correction.
