Effects of Soil Liquefaction
State the measures used to reduce the effects of Soil Liquefaction?
Expert
To diminish the soil liquefaction effect, it is proposed to decrease the pressure of pore water induced during the earthquake shaking. This can be attained by providing better drainage in the soils (e.g. wick drains, sand drains etc.) and also densification of soils (e.g. vibroflotation, dynamic compaction etc.)
Liquefaction hazards can be decreased by improving the drainage ability of soil. If the pore water within the soil drains freely, the build-up of additional pore water pressure could be decreased accordingly.
