Some of shortcomings of the mapreduce are as follows:

a) One-input two-phase data flow is rigid that is, it does not permit for several step processing of the records.

b) Being based on the procedural programming model this framework need code for the simple operations.

c) The map and reduce functions being opaque does not premit for the optimization easily.
